Carolyn lives on the family farm in East Knox County, near Strawberry Plains. She has several stray dogs and cats and a 1975 right hand drive postal jeep with over 400,000 miles on it.
Heart in the Right Place is Carolyn’s first book. She worked on it, off and on, for 19 years (so far).
Loved the book. But want to know more. If she worked on it for 19 years, then are her parents still alive? Did someone else equal to her parents take over the practice?
Is there a sequel?
ANSWERS: Both my parents are still alive and doing well.
I started working on ithe book 20 years ago, was told my stories were no good by a writing teacher at UT (who was wrong), was humiliated and quit for 10 years, then started back again. : )
I am working on a sequel because so many people have asked for one.
There is a new young doctor in the area now who is from the community! He’s a good guy, but the new medical regulations and the managed care set-up prevent him from being able to use pliers on people or do huge amounts of work for free. : )

I was in Chattanooga this morning and listened to you speak (at The Family Medicine Conference). I thoroughly enjoyed your talk. I have always said there was a book in me somewhere that I needed to write, and my daughter has encouraged me to write one over the years. My life has been eventful, to say the least. Your information was extremely helpful, and it also jogged my memory about wanting to write a book. I read 3-4 books a week and would read more if I did not have to work. I have always felt that I could express myself better by writing than by talking. Again, it was a pleasure to hear you speak about your experience, and good luck with the potential movie. Hope we meet again. Elizabeth Park

Hi Carolyn,
I loved your book and am glad to hear you’re writing a sequel. How’s your mother doing? Did you ever get back to DC to say farewell to all your friends? Since you’re now an established author I wonder if you miss your receptionist days : )
I read another book you would enjoy called The Sharper Your Knife, the Less You Cry”. I definately think you should meet this author, she also has a website and is about your age, check it out.
Your friend in Lancaster, PA

Hello!
I’m so glad I had the flu yesterday — it meant I could sit and read your book all day and not feel guilty about the stuff (housework) that I was avoiding. There are several places where I laughed out loud and, since laughter is supposed to be healthy, I wasn’t really reading — I was curing my flu. Unfortunately it didn’t work but that’s not your fault.
I’d like to mention you and your wonderful on my blog if that’s all right. You can see the blog at http://aliensandalibis.wordpress.com/ The blog will get longer soon, I hope.
If you haven’t read THE GUERNSEY LITERARY AND POTATO PEEL PIE SOCIETY by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. It’s like your book and it’s not — if that makes any sense.
A sequel would be nice and maybe a sequel to a sequel and then a sequel to that sequel………
Deb
PS Anything happening with Matthew? I was so convinced that you would be engaged to him by the end of the book!

I just read Carolyn’s book “Heart in the Right Place” and was going to suggest a solution to not going back to DC … ” W R I T E .” I was halfway through the book, devouring the pages, when it hit me … these people are REAL. Kiddo, keep the pages coming. You are a terrific writer in spite of what the … uhhhh … pros think.

Your website was just sent to me today and I cannot wait to get the book. My brother lives in Knoxville so we are occasionally there visiting. Just having the references to places we know adds so much to your stories. As a practice manager in a rural area near Chattanooga it is also refreshing to have your perspective on “old time doctoring”. I am going to share this website with all my friends…have a great day!
